How We Got Here
- Factories have been the backbone of our economy but that doesn’t mean you want to work like one. The launch of public education was a deliberate attempt to raise factory workers and it worked. Things learned in frightening circumstances are sticky. Schools have figured this out and use fear-based, test-based tactics to teach compliance. We’re teaching the wrong stuff. In this world, lousy teachers are what you need. We have a system that punishes artists and rewards bureaucrats. At school you learn how to be good at school, which would be fine it you went to school forever. Schools should teach solving interesting problems and leadership. There is no reason why schools can’t learn to teach this as easily as they figured out how to teach compliance. In this world, lousy teachers are dangerous.
