Thank You for Listening by Marc Wong

Time to Practice

  • In the final chapter, Marc spells out a fifteen-week practice plan that is integrated with his 8-Step-Listen website. This includes practicing the listening role of audience, contributor, and counsellor, and the techniques of paying attention, showing understanding, asking questions, and showing empathy.
  • The appendix contains a listening bookmark you can use with people you communicate with along with a list of listening rewards. After you complete a communications session, have your listener check the rewards that they got out of the session. They include: enjoyed the chat, felt like you gave undivided attention, asked good questions, made them think, were not judgmental, thought you understood, allowed talking out different issues, gave helpful feedback, heard one’s concerns, and gave support and encouragement.
  • Marc’s bottom line is that we all have the ability to be good listeners, and as we develop these skills, we will profit from the effort. Now it’s time to purchase some copies and spread them around your network.
