The World Is Open – Curtis Bonk

2. E-Learning & Blended Learning

  • Online and blended learning are expanding at a rapid pace. Florida and Michigan along with Minneapolis and Denver are leaders in the US. Nations with growing middle classes like Malaysia, India, and China are using it allow for the rapid expansion of educational opportunities. Many teachers are reluctant to enter this world due to lack of skill and fear of losing their jobs as they know them. Online options allow students to take heavier course loads and save time and gas. It gives many adults a second chance to get degrees they missed, change careers without giving up current jobs, and get just-in-time learning to keep up with changing requirements. Online courses often require extensive reading and writing and can increase motivation. They are self-paced, offer extra help, engage personal interest, and require full participation from all. In some cases it is the only way to meet rising demand for courses like Chinese.
