The Gamer Generation by Jennifer Wagner

Violence in Video Games

  • Jennifer gives us many excerpts from the research that supports the notion that playing violent video games does not result in violent behavior. Indeed, it may even curb violence if it allow players to get such urges out during play. A study of violent youth shows that they are no more likely to play a lot of violent games than non violent youth. Quality parent relationships and supervision are more of a key to producing non violent students. Parents should realize that some games are not appropriate for children of certain ages. Violent games also often have some prosocial content, and antisocial behavior is often punished.
